We would recommend this gift card to any gaming fan who wants to grow their PSN collection and experience a wide selection of PlayStation content.Pros
- Provides instant access to a vast library of PlayStation content
- Flexibility to purchase games, add-ons, and subscriptions
- Convenience of remote purchase and easy management of your PSN content
Cons
- Physical collectible enthusiasts may prefer boxed versions over digital codes
- Gift cards have no monetary value outside the PlayStation ecosystem
- Digital games can't be resold or traded as physical copies can
Once you’ve claimed your £40 gift card from Marks and Spencer, you’ll be immediately impressed by how easy and straightforward the whole experience is. Your PSN balance will increase almost instantly and there you are, faced with an endless treasure trove of digital content – both the latest blockbuster releases and those indie gems that you might otherwise overlook.
We’ve often picked up bargains on the PlayStation Store and, with an extra amount to spend thanks to the gift card, those bargains feel even more like bargains. Most importantly, we find that patience – with regular PlayStation Store sales offering some fantastic discounts – enables us to make each pound travel further, too.
In short, you’re paying for the privilege of using digital goods in a way that’s closest to the freedom of choosing physical media, while being stuck inside Sony’s PlayStation universe. That might still be worth the price of admission to some – ie, me. But for anyone else, these gift cards are pure gold.
Back 4 Blood Exclusive
We think this is a must-play, cooperative experience thanks to its high-octane, team-based gameplay.Pros
- Exclusive Amazon UK AR pin badge included
- Replayability thanks to the rogue-like card system
- Dynamic co-op and PVP modes for social play
Cons
- Internet and PlayStation Plus needed for online multiplayer
- May be overwhelming for solo players due to intense action
- The PVP mode isn't everyone's cup of tea
When we first booted up our PS5 and got into Back 4 Blood, the world of the game seemed determined to pull us into chaotic, meaningful, challenging action. Playing with friends, sharing the experience, the internal and external experiences of growing with them, developing deep care and cooperative relationships with them, the accomplishment when we take on a mission and survive seemed pumping with energy.
Caveat: you do need both an internet connection and a PlayStation Plus membership to play online but, given the emphasis of the game on online play, it’s something of a condescension on Nagami and his co-designers if that puts you off accessing its vast, changing content. On the other hand, it can feel a little lonely playing on your own, and in the thick of a bunch of Ridden, a bit worrying, compared with the human-fleshed out tactical advantage of a full squad.
For those not particularly keen on player versus player combat, the PVP mode, clever and unlike anything else I’ve played, might not prove engaging either. Put simply, for those looking to play with pals and go toe-to-toe with the apocalypse, Back 4 Blood kept us on our toes with its fun co-op gameplay and ever-different challenges. It’s a solid pick.
PS5 Slim
It would be a great idea for us to get the shiny looking PS5 slim that’s bleeding edge tech paired with a gorgeous looking design.Pros
- Rapid game loading times thanks to the high-speed SSD
- The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers offer an immersive experience
- Quieter operation compared to the original PS5
Cons
- Limited library of exclusive games at the moment
- Bulk downloads required as the trend moves away from physical discs
- Occasional connectivity issues which can interfere with gameplay
I can’t believe how much better games play on the PS5 Slim. Yes, it boots up insanely quickly (courtesy of the lightning-fast in-built SSD), but truly games play more immersive – the rumble, the snap of a trigger, the clack of a controller button – pushing the human experience into games in profound ways.
I just knew it subconsciously now, but playing games that make great use of it has shown that’s the case. All said, the PS5 Slim represents a step further we had been expecting in console entertainment, albeit with new-generation caveats. Whether marveling at the great graphics or immersing in 3D sound, it is a great time to be a gamer. Any little inconvenience aside, the PS5 Slim has found its place as the centrepiece of our home digital entertainment system.
Dead Island 2: Play It Today
Our zombie-crazed players have spent tens of millions of hours traipsing through LA’s riotous dreamscape before you even set foot on American soil. After hours spent navigating the unpredictable streets of LA, we believe the grotesque charm and sadistic melee combat of Dead Island 2 will appeal to zombie heads.Pros
- Engrossing melee combat with tons of weapons
- Vivid, gore-soaked depiction of Los Angeles
- Entertaining co-op experience for up to three players
Cons
- Can become repetitive for some players
- Not for the faint of heart due to intense gore
- At times, the dialogue can feel overdone
Being drenched in each and every splatter of gore, the violent slice-and-dice nature of combat stood out. Training with an array of deadly weapons kept each encounter with the shuffling zombie horde novel and satisfying.
Scavenging post-nuclear Los Angeles for weapons and supplies with which to indulge our sadistic slaughter was as ghoulish as it was fun. Allowing us to team-up with up to two others gave this zombie-slaughtering a chaotic edge, with humour adding to the mix as we moved through the hordes and called out moves. Every new area of the city, from beachfront to downtrodden wastelands and affluent, luxury retreats, added more to be explored with every mission.
Overall, putting down your controller at the end of Dead Island 2 feels satisfying in bloody ways that it should. If you’ve ever wanted to become the zombie hero of your own apocalyptic fantasy as you slaughter the walking dead in the most satisfyingly messy ways imaginable against the backdrop of LA in ruins, this definitely should be on your playlist.
Sony PS3 Super Slim
We think the Sony PS3 Super Slim is a good buy if you want a slimmed-down version of a well-known console with plenty of storage space.Pros
- Compact and quieter than previous models
- Generous 500GB storage capacity
- Versatile home entertainment features
Cons
- Bundled with only one controller
- Lacks extra games
- No significant innovation compared to earlier models
I’ve spent plenty of time with the PS3 Super Slim and straightaway you notice the smaller size of it. It really is a unit who’s size would save you a ton of space, and the top-loading disc cover allows for easier switching between games. No change whatsoever with Sony’s philosophy that the console remains sexy, while they go compact. It’s a great music box, a great movie player and indeed a great Blu-Ray player.
In case anyone somehow missed the point, you can drag the 200g PS3 Super Slim around inside a bag as if it were a piece of futuristic paper judging from the thickness of it. We’ve streamed a ton of movies, music and used it to watch television without so much as the faintest of judders. Its generous 500GB HDD means my media library is well accounted for. Of course, there are no exclusives in the box.
Just one controller and not even any bonus games for you to throw in for friends so you can experience the thrill of multiplayer action right from the word go. No sir. You’ll have to splat down for that one. Ultimately, the PS3 Super Slim is solid for anyone looking to get back into the extensive PS3 library, or those using it as a media centre, even if it fails to further innovate on its design and utility.
Buying Guide
Assessing Your Needs
However, the first thing to decide is what role the PlayStation is to have in your life: is it to be your casual gaming machine, or will you use it competitively and for long gaming sessions? Will you use it for streaming media, or even as a family entertainment system? Once you figure out your core needs, the decision turns easier.Technical Specifications
Performance: We should consider processing power and memory capacity. The higher-scale hardware should deliver more responsive gameplay and faster load times.

Checking to see if storage can be expanded will guard us against running out of space. Connectivity: you need enough USB ports and wireless options to plug in controllers and other accessories, as well as enough bandwidth for other players to connect online.
